Az angol lányegyüttes Spice Girls debütáló stúdióalbuma, amely Japánban 1996. szeptember 19-én, az Egyesült Királyságban pedig 1996. november 4-én jelent meg a Virgin Records gondozásában. A Spice egy popalbum, amely olyan stílusokat ötvöz, mint a dance, az R&B és a hip-hop. A „Who Do You Think You Are” című dal hivatalos Comic Relief kislemezként jelent meg az Egyesült Királyságban, dupla A-oldalas kiadásban a „Mama” című dallal, és mindkét dal bekerült a top 20-as listákra Európa-szerte, Ausztráliában és Új-Zélandon. A zenekar szülőhazájában, az Egyesült Királyságban mind a négy kislemez az első helyre került a brit kislemezlistán, és a Billboard Hot 100-on az album három top 5-ös kislemezt is eredményezett.

HÁTTÉR

1994 februárjában Chris és Bob Herbert, akik Chic Murphy finanszírozóval együtt Heart Management néven működtek, hirdetést tettek fel a The Stage magazinban, amelyben a következő kérdést tették fel: „Utcai okos, extrovertált, ambiciózus, és tud énekelni és táncolni?”. A menedzsment több száz választ kapott, de végül öt lányból álló végső csoportra szűkítették a keresést: Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Melanie C, Geri Halliwell és Michelle Stephenson. Az új zenekar eredetileg Touch néven futott, és egy maidenheadi házba költöztek. Emma Bunton csatlakozott utolsóként, miután Stephenson édesanyja betegsége miatt kilépett.
A csoport bizonytalannak érezte magát a szerződés hiánya miatt, és frusztrálta őket az az irány, amerre a Heart Management terelte őket. 1994 októberében, demók és táncos számok katalógusával felvértezve, a csoport turnézni kezdett menedzsmentügynökségeknél. Találkozni kezdtek producerekkel, zenészekkel és más üzleti vezetőkkel, köztük Tim Hawes zeneszerzővel, valamint Richard Stannard és Matthew Rowe írókkal. KRITIKA

A Spice vegyes kritikákat kapott a popzenei kritikusoktól. A Spice-t 1997-ben jelölték a Mercury-díjra. Azonban veszített a Roni Size & Reprazent által írt New Forms című albummal szemben. A 2019-es albumról reflektálva, a Pitchfork munkatársa, Aimee Cliff úgy vélte, hogy a kissé „gyenge” feminizmus ellenére „a Spice továbbra is merész teljesítmény... öt olyan Lányt csempészett be az establishmentbe, akik nem voltak a vendéglistán, ezzel egy rövid, szürreális pillanatra káoszt okozva”.

A "Wannabe" 25. évfordulója alkalmából 2021 júliusában megjelent a csoport debütáló kislemezének egy EP-je, amely korábban kiadatlan demókat is tartalmazott.
2021. szeptember 1-jén a Spice Girls bejelentette a Spice újrakiadását az album 25. évfordulója alkalmából, Spice25 címmel. A deluxe dupla album 2021. október 29-én jelent meg, és remixeket, demókat és kiadatlan számokat tartalmaz. Emellett a 2 Become 1 kislemezes verziója szerepelt az album harmadik számának az eredeti albumverzió helyett. A CD-k egy A5-ös keményfedeles füzetben kaphatók, ikonikus képek gyűjteményével és hat Spice Girls képeslapból álló készlettel, míg az eredeti album limitált kiadású bakeliten és kazettán is kapható.
A Spice25 újrakiadásával az album 7798 eladott példánnyal az ötödik helyen került fel a brit albumlistára,[60] miközben a hivatalos bakelitlemez-listán a harmadik, a hivatalos fizikai albumlistán pedig a negyedik helyet érte el

WANNABE

A brit lányegyüttes Spice Girls debütáló kislemeze, amely 1996. június 26-án jelent meg. A dalt a Spice Girls, Matt Rowe és Richard "Biff" Stannard írta, a produceri munkálatokat pedig Rowe és Stannard végezte a csoport debütáló albumán, a Spice-ön, amely 1996 novemberében jelent meg. A dalt eredetileg Dave Way keverte, azonban a Spice Girls nem volt elégedett az eredménnyel, ezért a felvételt Mark "Spike" Stent keverte. A dance-pop dal szövege a női barátság fontosságát hangsúlyozza a romantikus kapcsolatok helyett. Azóta a női önrendelkezés szimbólumává és a csoport lányerő-filozófiájának legjellemzőbb dalává vált.
A "Wannabe" című dalt nagy népszerűségnek örvendett. Johan Camitz rendezte videoklipje sikert aratott a brit kábeltévé-hálózaton, amely felkeltette a sajtó érdeklődését a csoport iránt. Ezt követően a dal intenzív rádiós adásban volt Anglia-szerte, a Spice Girls pedig televízióban adta elő, és interjúkat és fotózásokat kezdett készíteni tini magazinoknak. SAY YOU'LL BE THERE

Egy dal az angol lánycsapat Spice Girls-től debütáló stúdióalbumukról, a Spice-ről (1996). A Spice Girls Eliot Kennedyvel közösen írta a dalt, miután a csoport 1995-ben kilépett a Heart Managementből. Később Jonathan Buck is dalszerzői elismerést kapott. Az Absolute produkciós duó által készített dal a dance-pop és az R&B hatások keverékét tartalmazza. Judd Lander szájharmonika-szólót is tartalmaz. SLEIGH RIDE

A Spice album felvételei alatt készült, de nem sikerült felvenni az album dallistájára. Ehelyett a „2 Become 1” kislemez B-oldalas számaként szerepelt. Karácsonykor megjelent egy promóciós CD. A kislemez mellett a dal megjelent a Sounds of the Season ’98 karácsonyi válogatásalbumon és a Jack Frost filmzenéjén is.
1996-ban a Spice Girls feldolgozta a dalt karácsonyi „2 Become 1” című kislemezük B-oldalas dalához. A dalnak két változata létezik: a szerkesztetlen változat a „2 Become 1” UK CD2 limitált kiadású kislemezén (3’18”), és egy szerkesztett változat (lányok beszéde nélkül), amely a Sounds of the Season ’98 (2’38”) című válogatás CD-n érhető el, amely számos különböző pop- és rockzenekar (többek között a Backstreet Boys, Madonna és az Everclear) karácsonyi dalait tartalmazta. 2 BECOME 1

A Spice Girls brit lányegyüttes dala. A dalt a csoport tagjai, Matt Rowe-val és Richard Stannarddal közösen írták a csoport első professzionális dalszerzői ülésén, és Rowe és Stannard készítette a zenekar debütáló albumára, a Spice-ra (1996). A "2 Become 1" egy R&B ihlette popballada, amelyben gitár, elektronikus billentyűzet és vonós hangszerek is szerepelnek. A dalszöveg két szerelmes kötődésére összpontosít, és a biztonságos szex fontosságára is kitér. A Big TV! által rendezett videoklip, amelyben a csoport a New York-i Times Square-en készült gyorsított felvételek előtt lép fel, teljes egészében kék képernyő előtt forgott egy londoni stúdióban. A hátteret később rávetítették a képre.
A Virgin gondozásában 1996. december 16-án megjelent, a csoport harmadik kislemezeként a zenekritikusok általában jól fogadták, és kereskedelmi sikert aratott. Három hétig vezette a brit kislemezlistát, ezzel a csoport harmadik egymást követő listavezető dala lett, a második millió eladott kislemezük, és az első karácsonyi listavezető kislemezük az Egyesült Királyságban. 1997 júliusában a dal megjelent az Egyesült Államokban, a Billboard Hot 100-as listáján a negyedik helyen végzett, és arany minősítést kapott az Amerikai Hanglemezipari Szövetségtől (RIAA). 2019-ben Emma Bunton duettként dolgozta fel a dalt Robbie Williamsszel a negyedik szólóalbumán, a My Happy Place-en. 2024 decemberében Bunton zenekari változata jelent meg a Budapest Scoring Orchestrával.
